Surface Water Management District Grant Program

Program Guidelines

The Summit Soil & Water Conservation District (Summit SWCD) will be distributing funds through the Surface Water Management District (SWMD) for the installation of approved stormwater management features on approved properties in the communities within the SWMD. The goal of this grant program is to motivate and assist residents to collect stormwater on their properties using Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff entering natural areas and the sewer system and educate community residents about stormwater management and natural areas.

Program Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be an owner of residential property, or work at a school, church, library, or other business that meets the requirements below. Property owners within the eligible communities with renter-occupied properties may participate in the program with the approval and consent of both the owner and tenants.

Funding Eligibility

To be eligible for the SWMD Grant Program, the project must be located within one of the below communities. Acceptable projects include rain gardens, permeable pavement or impervious disconnects, rain barrels or cisterns, biofiltration practices, turf reduction (native flowers, grasses, shrubs, and trees), installing dry wells, as well as conservation scholarships (teacher’s workshops, Master Rain Gardener classes, etc.) or other BMPs deemed acceptable by Summit SWCD.

• Boston Township
• Copley Township
• Coventry Township
• Northfield Center Township
• Richfield Township
• Sagamore Hills Township
• Springfield Township
• Twinsburg Township
• Village of Lakemore
• Village of Reminderville

Grant Reimbursement Criteria

• Awards will not exceed $500 per proposal
• Only one proposal per location per year
• Projects must be completed by September 30, 2024, to be eligible for reimbursement
• Itemized receipts and a visit by Summit SWCD representative must occur prior to reimbursement
• Reimbursement checks must be picked up by November 1, 2024
